KATRINA SUDMAN AND HER HUSBAND, VINCENT CATALANO
PERFORM FOR US
Katrina and Vincent are coming to America for a visit.
They have agreed to perform a concert for us at The First
United Methodist Church of Downers Grove, located
at 1032 Maple Avenue, on Sunday, July 25th, 2021,
at 3 pm. We are so grateful that the
Downers Grove Church has offered the use of their Grand Piano
and are thrilled to present this FREE concert jointly with
our Church.
The concert title is “Symphonic Masterpieces at the Piano”
and will include movements of Liszt’s rarely performed
arrangements of Beethoven’s Symphonies no. 5 and no. 6 for
piano solo, a four-hand symphony by Debussy, and the beloved
“Peer Gynt” suite by Grieg.
Come experience this enchanting, entwining of the piano and
the orchestra, and congratulate Katrina and Vincent on their
recent marriage.

Outreach Opportunities
Want to Help Those Affected by the Tornado?
Gift cards are an easy way to help our neighbors
affected by last week’s tornado. Especially gift cards for
grocery stores, restaurants, hardware stores, and other
essential needs. Due to the immediate need, this is a quick,
two-week opportunity. Gift
card orders collected until next Sunday, July 4th and
returned July 11th. Find the form here.
We are also working on offering Personal Dignity
Kits (and hopefully other needed materials) from the Midwest
Mission Distribution Center to tornado victims. More on that
soon…
As we begin
to gather together for worship and slowly open our building,
there are some ongoing opportunities that we want to
"revive". We will get more details from our
Outreach Committee at a later time about these and other
opportunities.
Suits for Success
There are donation boxes in the hallway by the
coat rack just outside the narthex for both men and women's
clothing. The clothes are picked up, dry cleaned and
then taken to area men and women's prisons for people being
released. NO belts, shoes, underwear or ties.
"Goin'
Green" Shoes & Clothes Recycling Box
Located in the northeast corner of our parking lot,
this receptacle is a convenient place to recycle any shoes
and your clothes that are at or near the end of their
usefulness.
Did you know discarded clothes account for more
total landfill space than any other waste item? The “Goin’
Green” Box helps us reduce our waste.
How is this different from our “Suits for
Success” ministry?
The big difference is that “Suits for Success”
cannot accept shoes of any kind, nor can they accept belts,
ties, or underwear. “Goin’ Green” accepts all shoes and
clothes.
In summary: Keep bringing your gently used clothing
donations to the “Suits for Success” collection boxes in the
hallway.
For all shoes and any other clothes, instead of
throwing them in the trash, put them in the “Goin’ Green”
receptacle in the northeast corner of the parking lot.
West Suburban Food Pantry
We have a basket that we "inherited"
from the Faith, Lisle church that is waiting for
donations. It sits in the narthex, usually near the
sanctuary doors. They did not stop operating during the
pandemic and there is pending legislation in our state and
nation that might cut their corporate donations in large
amounts. Let's replenish our basket!!!
Used Eyeglasses
There is a
basket also in the narthex for collecting used
eyeglasses. Jorie would see that her sister, Kendra,
got the eyeglasses and that they are recycled to the Lions
Club and Gift of Sight groups. Kendra is continuing
this important mission. (Prescription eyeglasses only).
Northern
IL Conference "Fill the Truck" Mission Challenge
Help us reach and beat the Conference goal
- 6,000 pounds and $1,000 for the Midwest Mission
Distribution Center!
We’ve decided to collect the most needed items
for the MMDC Personal Dignity Kits:
• Toothpaste – 2.5 oz. or larger
• Wash Cloths (Bath)
• Hand Towels (Bath)
Please deposit your donations in the large
labeled basket in the Narthex.
Collection will close on July 1st so don’t
procrastinate! Let’s make that basket overflow all over the
place!

Northern
Illinois Justice for Our Neighbors
The
ministry of Justice For Our Neighbors (JFON), initiated by
the General Board of Global Ministries in 1999, has served
thousands of immigrants across the United States. The United
Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) sponsors this program,
working in 27 “clinics” in several regions of the United
States.
JFON was created to respond to complicated immigration
regulations arising from the Immigration Reform Act of 1996.
The events of September 11, 2001 and the Patriot Act have
worsened the situation, causing many delays in existing and
new applications and increasing the number of deportation
orders.
The JFON network effectively provides services to the
community and a strong forum for advocacy.
This organization, which has visited our congregation, fills
a critical role by aiding our neighbors who have immigration
status issues. In these times especially, they are most
deserving of our support.
Rosecrance - Kinley Charity Care Fund
Founded
in 1916 as an orphanage by Methodists, Rosecrance now
provides addiction and mental health treatment services to
thou-sands of individuals and families each year…many of whom
do not have the means to pay for services. The inability of
State government today to provide an adequate safety net to
meet the growing needs of those neediest families is at a
crisis level. Rosecrance is committed to serving these
families by redoubling our efforts to increase charity care
funded by the generosity of individuals, churches and others.
