Eat Out in
July with Pastor Danita
During the month
of August, we are going to do something a little
different. We have been trying different cuisines
located in Woodridge for dinner, but for August, we are going
to do breakfast together. Beginning Saturday, August
10th and for each Saturday in August, I
invite you to join me at Jam N Jelly on Route 53 in Seven Bridges
from 7:30
a.m. until 9:30 a.m.. I know it's
kinda early, but all of us have stuff to do on
Saturdays. This way we can have some time to
fellowship together over a meal and get on with the
day. Again, let me know if you will join us so
that I can get a space for us. Join me!
Community Roll Call
Woodridge UMC
together with the Woodridge Police Department are sponsoring
a Community Roll Call on September 4th at 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in
the parking lot (In case of rain, the roll call will be in
Bonfal Hall). Meet the officers that serve your
community. Learn about public safety and crime
prevention. There will be squad car demonstrations for
the kids. See
the flyer here.
FALL BIBLE STUDY - WEDNESDAY NIGHT
It's
coming!!!!! our fall Bible study class will be
FAST TRACK DISCIPLE: Remember Who You Are focusing on the
prophets of the Old Testament. Class will begin on
Wednesday,
September 4, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.. It
is a 12 week study that will end just before
Thanksgiving. This year there will be NO DINNER. Our
youth are meeting at another time. Be sure to sign
up in the narthex and let us know you will be joining
us. The study guide (which costs $15 each) will be
available shortly.
THE CURIOSITY RETURNS
Our desire to
explore and attempt to better understand our sacred text is
nigh inextinguishable. That’s why we call our ongoing bible
study,
“The Bible for Curious People.” The group
meets on Tuesday
mornings at 10:30am beginning September 3rd.
All are welcome. No prior bible reading or knowledge or
expertise needed. We will all learn as we go along exploring
what the text says, what it leaves unsaid, what history and
tradition tell us about the text, and how our own experience
influences our reading. Having a study bible to read really
helps. We have some available to borrow, just ask!
The first book to study this fall season is the apostle
Paul’s seminal work in his Epistle to the Romans. Watch this
space in future weeks for the reading assignments and
questions to consider.
Discipleship Systems Training
Making and growing
disciples is one of the highest priorities of the Northern
Illinois Conference and a pillar of our strategic goals.

disciples in their ministry setting. The Aurora District’s
session is on

Grace UMC in Naperville.
Our speaker is Jeff Campbell. Rev. Campbell serves as the
Associate General Secretary for Strategic Programming. Jeff

Conference. He will be covering:
ï‚· Clarifying the what, how & why of
making disciples

WEDNESDAY NIGHT LIVE RETURNS! NOW ON…SUNDAY
AFTERNOONS?!?
That’s right! New
day, new time…and (eventually) a new name for our weekly
Youth Group gatherings. WNL had a terrific 15-year run, but
now it is time for a reboot. Beginning Sunday, September 15th, our
weekly Youth Group gatherings are now Sunday afternoons from
12noon-1:30pm. Sharing a meal is sacred time.
So, after second worship service ends meet in the kitchen for
lunch — parents are invited too! (Don’t worry students, your
parents will have their own table.)
As we did with WNL after the meal we will play games and
learn about and from each other regarding the life of faith
and just life in general. No topic is out of bounds. One of
our first tasks will be to come up with a new name.
School year 2019-2020 is not a Confirmation year for WUMC, so
all students in 7th-12th grades are invited and welcome.
Bring a friend and see you for the start of our ministry
program year on September 15th!
Meal Train for providing lunch and the rest of our program
schedule will be released soon, so stay tuned!
All Church Work Day
There will be an
all church work day on
Saturday, September 14th at 8:00 am. We
will be trimming hedges and bagging the trimmings.
Bring work glove, trimmers and any other equipment you
would like to help with these jobs.

THERE’S
SOMETHING GREEN IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Did
you notice a new addition to the northeast corner of our
parking lot? Just this week we added a new “Goin’ Green” recycling receptacle
for clothes and shoes.
Did you know 12 million tons of clothing ends up
in North American landfills every year? That’s 68 pounds per
person! Discarded clothes account for more total landfill
space than any other waste item. The “Goin’ Green” program
aims to change that by providing a convenient place to
recycle your unusable shoes and clothes.
How is
this different from our “Suits for Success” ministry?
The big difference is that “Suits for Success”
takes gently used clothes to give to parolees to help them
succeed on job interviews. “Suits for Success” cannot accept
shoes of any kind. Meanwhile, “Goin’ Green” is for your
clothes and shoes that are at or near the end of their
usefulness.
How does
“Goin’ Green” help the environment?
In addition to keeping the clothes and shoes out
of landfills, the items in the receptacle are collected and
shipped to a warehouse where they are inspected and sorted.
Reusable items are shipped to places where affordable
clothing is needed. Items that cannot be reused are converted
to shop rags for industrial applications or recycled to base
fibers to be used again in the production of new
clothing.
TL;DR Keep bringing your gently used
clothing donations to the “Suits for Success” collection
boxes in the hallway. For all shoes and any other clothes,
instead of throwing them in the trash, put them in the “Goin’
Green” receptacle in the northeast corner of the parking
lot.

businesses or residents can participate, please fill out the
