"Focusing on God-Things"

This Sunday we will be acknowledging our veterans in our annual Veteran's Day Observance.  A quote from our Discipleship Ministries discussion on Veteran's Day says the following:

"Since the end of World War II, observances of Armistice Day have been held all over the nation, but especially in our national cemeteries and monuments and at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C. The president and many state governors have issued proclamations. Countless communities, veterans groups, and civic clubs and organizations have held local observances. Armistice Day became Veterans' Day by an act of Congress in 1954, changing its purpose and scope. President Eisenhower called on the nation to remember the sacrifices of those who fought in all our nation's wars, to celebrate the contributions of all veterans of military service, and to rededicate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace. It is Eisenhower's call that remains the three-fold purpose of Veterans' Day: remembering those who fought and died, celebrating all veterans, and promoting an enduring peace."

There are also reminders and guidelines on how the day is acknowledged within the worship service.  We will acknowledge all of our veterans and we know that we have some who served in military units of other countries as well.  Thank you for your service.

We will also take a look at some interesting passages of scripture that keeps reminding us of our priorities......where is our focus?  What are the things that require our attention the most?  It is really hard to say that we always focus our attention on God and/or the things that God would like for us to focus on.  We have so many things on our minds that it is sometimes hard to focus on only one at a time let only on the things that God would require of us.  And why should we?  After all our families and friends are important to us and require our attention.

What are these God-things and why should we focus on them anyway?  And how do we fit them into our schedules?  This is just too much!!!!  Or is it?  Let's talk on Sunday about "FOCUSING ON GOD-THINGS" and see what we come up with.  Join me at 9:00 a.m. or 10:30 a.m..  ALL are welcome.

ADVENT STUDY AND WORSHIP THEME
The theme for the 2019 Advent season is THE GIFT OF THE NUTCRACKER.  It includes a study for adults, youth and children as well as the basis for our Sunday morning worship.  If you have not had a chance to watch the NUTCRACKER in recent years, please take time this season to do so.  Invite some friends and family members.  See it in a different venue than you remember seeing it last.  If you wish to organize an outing that includes other church members, do so and send the details to the office and we will include it in the Sunday announcements.  The sign-up for the Adult study is available in the narthex. Study guides cost $10. Let's exam the connection of pop culture and our faith and have fun in-between.

LIVE STREAMING WORSHIP SERVICES
We are starting to test Live Streaming the worship service on YouTube
If you are not at church please try it out. Please DO NOT access the Live Stream in our building. It will consume our internet bandwidth and impact external users.  Bugs are still being worked out and it may not be available every Sunday.

Where to find the YouTube Live Stream
From the YouTube app or on the YouTube web page, search for: Woodridge UMC
Also please consider subscribing to the YouTube page. You will need to have a free google or YouTube account to subscribe

SNAP coupons cannot be used to purchase diapers, so your donations help tremendously. Thank you!
